The “Are You a Shrew?” Quiz

…a wife’s quarreling is a continual dripping of rain.
(Proverbs 19:13 ESV)

Are you a shrew? Or are you in any danger of becoming a shrew? Do you have any shrew-like habits? What’s a shrew? A shrew is a small mole-like mammal with beady little eyes and a poisonous bite. A shrew is also a bad-tempered woman who uses venomous words to irritate or pain her husband.

These are Muppet Prairie Dogs, not shrews.

“Shrew” is one of those old, sharp Shakespeareanish words that is probably best used in diagnosing yourself — if the shrew fits (ha) — but not used for throwing at others. And note that a shrew is not a woman who in strength and dignity clearly expresses her hopes, desires, and needs to her husband and does him good, not harm, all the days of her life. (See Proverbs 31.)

Shrewish behavior is sinful and unbecoming to a woman who knows the Lord (see Proverbs 14:1), and Mary Kassian offers this instructive quiz to help us each do a little “Am I a Shrew?” self-check.
