The Vision Statements of San Gabriel Community Church
The body of Christ at San Gabriel Community Church exists to develop committed followers of Jesus Christ as we celebrate God, examine and apply His Word, and extend God’s love and hope to one another, our community, and the world. The following five statements serve as a summary of the biblical responsibilities of the local church. They capture how God has called us to function as a church and as individuals and how we can specifically bring glory to God.
SGCC desires to be a church family that pursues passionate, personal, and corporate prayer and worship.
SGCC desires to be a church family that equips and trains its people for involvement in effective Christian ministry.
SGCC desires to be a Church family that is growing in the knowledge of God through a commitment to the integrity and exposition of the Scriptures.
SGCC desires to be a church family that pursues Biblical love and unity.
SGCC desires to be a church family that is committed to personal, community, and international evangelism and discipleship.
In the summer of 2012, the women’s ministry team walked through each of these vision statements of SGCC and evaluated how we, as a leadership team, were doing at encouraging the women of SGCC in each of these areas. We also set goals of how we could better support the vision of SGCC as it pertains to women’s ministry, keeping in mind that “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” (Psalm 127:1a ESV)
We based our goals on the church’s vision statements and the passage in Colossians 1:28 that says, “Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.”
Our desire is to reach women for Christ, nurture them in their faith, and carry out the Titus 2 principle, in the context of sound doctrine, of older women teaching younger women, that we would equip and train every woman in the various roles they hold so that they may use their giftedness to serve the body of Christ. We have been so encouraged and blessed by the women at SGCC as we see Christ transforming hearts and lives, and as we see a continued desire to disciple the next generation.
Why a blog?
As we walked through our vision for women’s ministries, one thing we recognized is the capacity of using the tool of technology to encourage one another in the faith. Although reading blogs or going on social networking sites should never take the place of “in-person” fellowship, they have enormous potential for sharing the truths of Scripture with a wide range of people. We pray that this blog will give us additional opportunities to equip women for ministry in their homes and church.
We pray that it would be a tool for encouraging you in your faith and exhorting you to press on as we walk together in the Lord. Our hearts’ desire is to be faithful to “stir up one another” to love and glorify our Lord with our lives.
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV
